Waiting Time and Case Processing Procedure
A brief explanation of how the case process works and how long it takes to process your case. There is often a waiting period before we begin processing your case.
Whether the waiting time for a response to your application is short or long depends on the specific circumstances of your case. Most people can follow their case on My Page.
The average time before we begin processing reported cases is 3.5 months. Many cases are processed earlier, but for some, it may take up to 6 months before we start.
Response to Compensation Application
Approved: On average, it takes 11 months from when we receive your application until you receive payment, if you are entitled to compensation.
Rejected: On average, it takes 7 months from when we receive your application until you receive a response, if you are not entitled to compensation.
Step-by-Step Case Processing
The need for documentation varies from case to case. We therefore tailor the investigation to ensure the most efficient case processing possible. Below is the general process for many cases, though not all.
You can choose to submit the application form digitally or by mail. We recommend submitting it digitally—it’s easier for you and allows us to start your case more quickly.
We obtain a statement from the treatment facility where you believe the injury occurred. We also collect other relevant documentation, such as medical records. You will receive the statement and have the opportunity to comment on it. This can easily be done via My Page.
Claims Officer Investigates the Case
The claims officer will review the documentation received and gather additional information if necessary. The most important documents in the case are your input, medical records, the treatment facility’s statement, and an expert medical assessment.
You will be kept informed about the progress of your case. You are also welcome to contact your claims officer if you have questions or new information.
Assessment of Medical Issues in the Case
In most cases, we obtain an expert medical assessment. Based on their professional background as a specialist, the expert will evaluate the treatment and follow-up the patient received.
The claims officer will assess whether you are entitled to compensation.
Calculation of Compensation
If you are entitled to compensation, we will calculate the amount. At this stage, we usually need input and information from you. The claims officer will contact you about this. The time required varies from case to case. In some cases, the documentation is sufficient for us to make a quick payment without needing further information.
The claims officer will determine the compensation based on your specific situation, ensuring that your current and future financial losses are covered. The compensation is intended to cover losses resulting from the injury that are not covered by sick pay, social security benefits, or similar.
The goal is for you to be in approximately the same financial situation as you were before the injury occurred.
