Important Information for Lawyers
On Friday 20 November at 16:00, all case processing at Norwegian Patient Injury Compensation will stop while we transition to a new case management system. Case processing will resume in January after the transition. We will publish information on npe.no when we have reopened.
We apologise for the consequences this will have for you, but unfortunately, this is necessary to ensure a safe transition to the new system.
There are therefore several dates that you, as a lawyer, must be aware of and take into account.
No Access to Cases
During the period in which case processing is suspended, we will not have access to any cases while they are being transferred to the new case management system. This means that we will not be able to answer questions about cases or process cases.
In January, we will have a new case management system and will be able to process cases as usual.
Payments
On Friday 13 November, we will make the final payments of lawyers’ fees and compensation amounts before case processing resumes in January. Claims for fees and agreements with the case handler concerning the payment of compensation must be in place before this deadline.
The exception is compensation and fees that are to be paid following final and enforceable judgments. We will make these payments as usual throughout the period.
- Claims for fees and agreements concerning the payment of compensation must be received by us no later than Wednesday 11 November. Remember to submit them well in advance.
We are required to pay interest on all payments that are delayed by us. We will therefore pay interest on overdue compensation payments that are delayed because of the suspension of our case processing.
No New Applications
We will stop accepting new applications before we suspend case processing. This is to ensure that the applications can be registered correctly in time.
- The deadline for submitting a compensation claim application is Friday 13 November at 16:00. All applications must be submitted before this time.
Compensation claim applications may be submitted when we resume case processing in January.
My Page Will Be Temporarily Closed
My Page communicates with our case management system. When we transition to the new system, we must also close My Page. The closure will take place in two phases.
On Wednesday 18 November at 16:00, My Page will be placed in read-only mode. Read-only mode means that there will be no further updates to cases and that you will no longer be able to submit information through My Page. You will only be able to read information and download documents that are already available.
On Friday 27 November at 15:00, My Page will be closed until we resume case processing in January.
If you need to use My Page either to provide us with information or to find information you need, you must take into account the period during which My Page will be unavailable.
We recommend that you submit through My Page all the information you believe we need from you by 18 November. By 27 November, you should download all the information you expect to need while My Page is closed.
Deadlines Will Be Extended
Under section 29, fourth paragraph, of the Public Administration Act, the deadline for appealing may be extended before it expires if there are special reasons for doing so.
Because our case processing will be suspended from 20 November, we have decided to extend the deadline for appealing for people who have received decisions from us during the period from 26 October to 20 November.
For these cases, the deadline for appealing is 8 February 2027, regardless of when the decision was received during the period from 26 October to 20 November.
Deadlines for commenting on expert statements, for example, will not run while case processing is suspended. When we resume in January, deadlines for submitting comments will run as usual.
New Case Numbers
When we resume case processing with the new system, cases will be assigned new case numbers on My Page.
