Communication with the patient

Openness is the key word in any context associated with patient injuries. Our best advice to health care personnel is to be open with respect to what has happened.

Any patient who feels that he or she has been injured while receiving treatment is entitled to be taken seriously irrespective of whether you view the situation differently. Therefore:

1. Inform patients about their right to apply for compensation.
2. Avoid creating excessively high expectations.
3. Leave the compensation issue to us.

When the patient has applied to NPE for compensation, the relevant treatment provider will be asked to comment. The provider will be given further opportunity to comment on any expert medical opinion submitted.

A duty to inform

When the patient has sustained an injury or a serious complication, health care personell are required by law to inform about NPE and the possibility for patient injury compensation.
