Should I wait before submitting an application?

If errors have been made in connection with your treatment, it can sometimes be a good idea to wait before submitting your application until you can see the extent of the injury you have sustained or whether you have incurred financial losses.

What are the criteria to qualify for compensation for a patient injury?

To qualify for compensation for a patient injury, three conditions must be met. Please read the following carefully before applying for compensation.

When does a claim expire?

The Limitation Act has two periods of limitation of 3 and 20 years, respectively.

Do I report my case to NPE or the county governor?

The county governor has authority to take action with regard to health personnel. NPE does not have this authority. We process applications for compensation and pay out compensation to those who are entitled to it.

Treatment abroad

Norwegian citizens who incur an injury when receiving treatment abroad cannot apply for compensation from NPE. Claims for compensation following injury should generally be directed to the treatment site.
